Tie the Perfect Bow

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve tied a bow and then had a friend retie it. Honestly (*nods head). I’m not even upset by it, just slightly befuddled. Until now (*valiantly thrusts arm into the air)!

Thank you Modcloth for showing me how to be a better woman (*hint of sarcasm there – did you catch the whiff?)! Favorite part of the video: the awkward shuffle-away at 0:45 sec. Second favorite part: learning to tie a bow.

Hehe, yup, there were some pictures of Sharon Davis and myself in that mix!!

Style note and body type:
On most body-types, high-waist pants actually fit better than low-rise jeans. Can you say ‘no more muffin-top’? The trick is to find pants that hit at your natural waist and hug your hips.
As with all types of clothing, you have to find the right cut for your body. Saying that high-waist pants are great for a set group of body-types is a huge generalization. It really depends on the pants and how comfortable you feel when you wear them.
That said, here’s my body-type generalization. Consider it a starting point for finding the right pair for you. High-waist pants are generally great for those with hourglass, apple and straight body types. They can be problematic for those who are a bit heavier on bottom since they accentuate that part of your body. However, there are always exceptions to the rule.
If you’re wearing high-waisted pants or shorts, don’t cover up the style! Wear a fitted top, tucked in if necessary. Ruffled tops look great with this style. If you must wear a layer, wear a sweater or short jacket.

Oxford Central

I just stumble upon these and I had to post them.

Langford wool high-heel oxfords
A feminine take on the classic wing tip oxford, these haute heels feature a sturdy 3 3/4″ stacked heel and a new exterior platform (for added comfort and a leg-lengthening lift). Crafted in fine Italian leather and tweed for a just-right textural touch, they’ll add a hint of vintage appeal to any outfit (what’s not to love?). Leather and wool herringbone (grey herringbone) or leather and wool houndstooth (heather charcoal) upper. Leather lining and sole. 3 3/4″ semi-gloss stacked heel with a 3/8″ exterior platform. Made in Italy.

Literary Love Heels

For those who appreciate a good book and an even better look, these penny loafer inspired heels are a great way to add a touch of higher education to even your smartest ensembles. With intricate stitching, weathered gold buckles, and a soft rubber sole for added comfort, class is in (in every respect). By Jeffrey Campbell.

Boooo! 🙁 Unfortunately these hotties are sold out, but if you have an account on Modcloth, you can ask to be notified when they restock. Love love love these!!

Oh! Shoes ‘Minerva’ Oxford Pump

Spectator styling accents a low-heeled oxford that mixes rich suede and smooth leather, both in the same shade. Patented contoured footbed is coupled with shock-absorbing technology for ultimate comfort.

Poetic Licence ‘Backlash’ Oxford Pump

Scalloped suede trim and a houndstooth-patterned topline lend charming detail to a leather oxford fashioned with lustrous satin laces.

Winter Coats

It’s that time of year when the Northern Hemisphere starts to chill and people bust out their scarves, dust off their winter coats and bundle up. I, like many people, have a winter coat that is functional and practical, but yet still have the desire to buy a new one for this season. My current winter coat is long, brown, has fun built-in glove thingys, and a faux-fur hood. It’s everything I could want in a coat except that it’s brown. “Why did you buy it then” you ask me (and I subsequently ask myself)? Because last year I had no winter coat, was in dire need of one, and all the black coats didn’t cut it in the “functional department”. So I now own a coat that I don’t like, but can’t get rid of due to how practical it is.

That being said, I do, however, find myself saying “well, a pea coat is a staple and will be in fashion for years to come, so therefore it’s ok if I buy one for myself.” So here are some of the pea coats I’ve been looking at as well as some others that have caught my eye AND are still available for purchase.

Miss Sixty Women’s Double-breasted Wide Belted Wool Coat ($99.99) at Overstock

Betsey Johnson Women’s Short Wool Coat ($149.99) at Overstock

I think this coat is super cute, but the sleeves are too wide and it’s too short. Realistically I need something that covers my bum and will keep my arms warm. I can pictures a big gust of wind blowing by and going straight up my arms. Shiver me timbers!
