Hair Tutorial – Day 28

It’s the last day for hair tutorial month and I’ve learned so much. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep myself from being so dull with my hair (even though I think hiding under a beret is nice….and a basic ponytail is rather can be rather pretty)!

A few things I’ve learned about hair tutorials:

1) They don’t look very difficult to film. Perhaps I should do one?!
2) People have some UGLY backdrops!
3) There is lots of talky-talky and some of us just want an expedited version. Sigh….just like in dance classes….there are the talkers and there are the make-the-students-dance-ers.
4) People can make funny faces while using hairspray. This makes me slightly insecure about what silly facial expressions I must have that I don’t know about and that my friends are too kind to tell me about. πŸ™‚
5) The definition of long, medium, and short hair is very flexible. Apparently, what I consider medium length hair is what some people consider to be short.
6) I’ll never have hair the right length. It’s either too short or too long for everything! Hahha, perhaps you feel the same way.
7) I keep finding bobby pins in the oddest places!

Alright. Time for our last video. This kinda (eeek….sorta *squint) relates to fashion in the lindy hop scene. We wear bows in our hair, but what if we were to make our hair into a bow!!! I know you’ve always been wondering how to do this, so here’s the tutorial for you!!

In case you don’t have that much hair, fret not, here’s a video with “little hair”. OMGoodness, the Japanese are so cute!!

Here’s two more for good measures. This chick has shorter hair (as opposed to “little hair”) and can still make this happen. No excuses! Fast forward to 3:50 start πŸ™‚

Different technique. I’ll probably use the second one (starts at 4:10) on my hair.

Ladies, I want to see some Gaga Bows at the next few events. I’ll be Stateside in starting tomorrow and will see some of you at Heartland Swing Festival, then at Southwest Lindyfest, and then at Guys & Girls Gone Wild!! I want to see something from this past month at one of those three events. Come show me so we can take pictures together….it’d be very Japanese for us to do that. Peace-su!!

Oh yeah, and if you don’t know about those events, scroll to the top of the page, click on my calendar, scroll down to the appropriate month, and click on the links! Cheers!!

It’s be a Febru-hairy of a month!!!!

Hair Tutorial – Day 23 – French Twist

I super-suck at french twists so I figured I should included them in the hair tutorials. Here’s one of my favorite girls doing it up! Mind you, she has really long hair.

If you have a buddy to help you do your hair (or you just want to hear how to do this in English), check out this tutorial here. I would have embedded it, but the code was taken down πŸ™

Have no fear Ladies-with-Short-Hair! Here’s a quick video tutorial (under 1 minute) on how to do a french twist and securing it with a comb.

I wish I had seen this video before New Years Eve! It would have gone so well with my dress! Oh well…I just had my hair loose….it worked fine enough. See?

Hair Tutorial – Day 20 – Victory Rolls

It’s Sunday night and I need to get dolled up! I am at Goodnight Sweetheart with some of the prettiest folks you’ve ever seen and the party is still going. Looks like I need to step up my game here!

You’ve seen these before, but they are a staple in the pinup girl’s arsenal of hair styles. May I present to you: The Victory Roll!

Teasing goes a long way, eh? Man….this totally makes me want to cut my hair. Let me know if you find this to be easier or harder depending on your hair length. πŸ™‚

Hair Tutorial – Day 19 – Faux Hawk

I’m in London this weekend and I feel like I need a little kick to my look! Everyone is so fashionable here!! Some of you have seen me rocking this look before and if you’ve asked me how to do it, here’s where I learned. Yes, I’ve posted videos from her before, and guess what, there is more to come!!

You don’t need to curl your hair to do it. Typically I back comb the crap out of my hair, twirl it forward, and pin it. I remember the first time I did this to my hair I was in Vegas with Dorry & Sommer, Nikki & Shesha, and Kev. We saw Zumanity (which is a freaking hot show if you ask me) and rode the roller coaster at the New York, New York hotel. Let me tell you s’m’th’n….bobby pins do not say in your hair when you ride a roller coaster like that. Just sayin’!!

Hair Tutorial – Day 16 – Bob Revisited

I want short hair. I want long hair. I want short hair. I want long hair. It seems easier to do things with short hair, but you’re limited by your length. It’s easy to work with long hair because you have more options, but then you have to deal with the extra length. Gahhh!!! I need more wigs, or weaves and personal assistants.

Hahha….I laugh at myself after reading what I’ve just written. I’ll keep it up there anyways.

Bob Revisited. Luckily I found a lovely lady with long hair who bobbed herself out! I love it! Back to wanting longer hair!

Here was my attempt at a bob.

Wish I had better shots of my hair from this, but you can kinda see it. I think had I used product, it would have stayed in for the entire show. Oh well, you live and you learn!

Hair Tutorial – Day 11 – French Braid Friday!

Here’s what I’ll tell you about me and French Braids. When I was growing up, all the popular girls and soccer players knew how to french braid hair. I remember wanting to french braid my hair, but my friends and I never knew how. Fast forward to 2008; I remember seeing Sharon wear her hair in one and that finally gave me the push to learn how to do it. Thank goodness there was a magical machine called YouTube that provided me with answers so that I, too, could have french braided hair! FYI: what Americans know as a braid, the Aussies and Brits know as a plait. What Americans know as a French braid, the A/B know as a braid. Don’t get confused like I did!!

During a week off back in 2009, I found myself a tutorial on how to french braid and I made myself learn how to do it! It took 45 minutes the first time, or something close to that. My triceps were burning by the time I finished one side! Hahha, even now, one of the best ways for me to increase my body temperature is to french braid my hair. Works a treat!! So don’t get frustrated trying to learn this. It’s a piece of cake once you have it down, you just need to learn the pattern with your hands. Once you learn to braid crossing the hair over the top, then try the same pattern, but crossing the hair under. πŸ˜›

Ok, now to braiding!

French Braid and Bun. This I’ll use!

Once you already have that down, try this one that wraps around the side of your head. I do something similar to this to this with my hair, but I go more at an angle (see photos). I like how this lady explains what to do; it’s pretty clear and concise. If you know how to french braid before doing this video, I presume this will be easier.

Hair Tutorial – Day Nine – Victory Rolls

I really dig how Vivideluxxxe did her tutorial. Even if you don’t watch the entire thing, you can still click through the video and see her progression. I really like the shape of her rolls. πŸ˜€

Often times I won’t curl my hair before I do rolls, but I can absolutely see the benefit of why one should. Hehe, mostly I don’t have the time since my hair is so long and heavy. How about you? Do you curl your hair or do you tease instead?

Don’t forget to send me pictures!!

Hehhe, I just figured out that my Day Six post didn’t make it up, until now! Check it out. I found a great tutorial on how to curl hair with a curling iron. Great for short to medium hair.

Hair Tutorial – Day Eight – Faux Bob

So here’s something for the girls with short hair. I’m so jealous…..my hair just doesn’t hold a curl like this; it’s too heavy. As it says below, this look was inspired by the ‘Vintage Hairstyling’ by Lauren Rennells. If you’d like your own copy of the book, click here! My mum gave this book to me for Christmas last year. How sweet!!

I think this would be so lovely with a long dress. I want to say Nikki had her hair something like this for New Years. Perhaps someone will find a photo. Or maybe Claire? Or perhaps with was Sara? Hmm….I’ll start my digging….
